Anderson police arrest 67-year-old man after foot chase at car wash

The Anderson Police Department (APD) located a Redding truck that was reported stolen on Wednesday. According to APD, the driver attempted to hide from police at a car wash before being arrested.

At approximately 11:41 a.m., an APD officer witnessed the stolen Ford F350 traveling on South Street near Highway 273. The officer called for backup, but before they arrived, the driver of the stolen vehicle abruptly drove into the car wash. The officer then turned on his hazard lights and immediately began giving instructions to the driver, later identified as 67-year-old Michael Vandolah.

According to police, Vandolah then ignored the officer’s instructions and attempted to hide from him by running in front of the trucks and eventually into another parking bay at the car wash before attempting to flee the scene of the accident.

According to APD, the officer quickly pursued Vandolah and fired his taser, causing Vandolah to fall to the ground and, after a brief struggle, he was arrested. A search of the area revealed that Vandolah had discarded 2.5 ounces of heroin and 3.5 grams of methamphetamine while attempting to flee. During a search of the stolen truck, officers found a butterfly knife and drug paraphernalia.

A review of Vandolah’s records revealed he was on CDC probation, APD says. Vandolah is well known to APD, having been arrested multiple times by the Anderson and Redding police departments and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.

Vandolah was arrested at the Shasta County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and probation violation. Additional charges of possession of heroin for sale and possession of methamphetamine will be filed with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office, according to APD.
