Amplifier Live

California-based multi-platinum DJ and producer Amp Live continues to push the boundaries of his genre-bending production style in his new EP, The Space Burrito Experiment.

In the 4-track collection, he combines bass music with bizarre but timeless remix samples of classic hip-hop tracks, transforming familiar sounds into a refreshing package of sonic treats.

Inspired by legends like Snoop Dogg and Tupac, Amplifier Live reinterprets these cult works from an innovative perspective, creating a project that takes four classics in unusual directions and appeals to those who appreciate the unconventional.

The Space Burrito Experiment is a bold exploration of hip-hop classics reinterpreted through the lens of contemporary electronic music. The four-track collection begins with “Rolling along the street”, a fascinating interpretation of Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice,”, where lush string riffs intertwine with the original lyrics before slipping into a warbling, bass-heavy soundscape.

CA Love” follows and transforms Tupac’s “California Love” with an unexpected rock edge that develops into groovy downtempo drops and pulsating basslines. The third track, “I have 5”, reinvents “I have 5 on it” by Luniz with razor-sharp bass lines and glitch-like elements that create a rousing beat that combines nostalgia and innovation.

The EP ends with “gypsy makeup,“a hypnotic interpretation of Crystal clear water“Gypsy”, which unfolds like a carpet of sound from delicate, ethereal beginnings to a rich, structured climax.

Throughout the EP Amplifier Live demonstrates his mastery of complex sound design by seamlessly blending elements of hip-hop, electronic and experimental music. Each track is designed to surprise and captivate with its dynamic progression and layered complexity, offering a new perspective on these iconic songs while boldly venturing into new listening areas.

Here is what Amplifier Live had to say about the publication:

“I always felt like I was in a box. Even though that box was cool and successful, I didn’t feel like I had a voice. Because I don’t rap and I don’t sing. Basically, what the people I’m with say is my voice in a way. People can interpret beats in any way they want, but with the lyrics, it’s pretty straightforward. It was hard to rebuild everything, but I’m in a much better place mentally. I can do what I want; I feel free.”

The Space Burrito Experiment EP is now available and can be streamed on all platforms via Dirt Monkeys imprint 19,000 sounds.
