Almost four months after its launch, AltStore PAL is lowering its €1.50 subscription fee thanks to a “MegaGrant” from Epic Games. This means that users based in the European Union can now install the third-party app store on their iOS and iPadOS devices for free.
GOOD NEWS, EU 🇪🇺 For innovations in app distribution, Epic Games has awarded us a MegaGrant with which we intend to cover Apple’s Core Technology Fee in the future – and we don’t take that for granted!
What does this mean? AltStore PAL is now FREE – no subscription required 🎉 pic.twitter.com/JSJo3FdhBx

The installation process is straightforward. You will need an iPhone running iOS 17.4 or later, or an iPad running iPadOS 18 beta, with your region set to an EU country. You can then head to the AltStore downloads section and follow the on-screen instructions. Existing subscribers will not be charged on their next renewal date.
AltStore plans to use the new grant from Epic Games to cover Apple’s Core Technology Fee, which imposes a €0.50 charge for each first annual install above a 1 million threshold. Epic Games previously confirmed that it plans to bring its portfolio of games, including hit title Fortnite, to the AltStore for iOS and iPadOS users in the EU.
