Fulham striker Alex Iwobi is backing Emile Smith Rowe to help the club aim for a place in the top half of the table this season.

Smith Rowe, who was signed from Arsenal for a club record £34 million, opened the scoring with his first Premier League goal in over two years before Iwobi scored the decisive goal in the second half.

Iwobi played with Smith Rowe at Arsenal and believes he can reach his full potential after a frustrating injury spell at Fulham.

“He scored two goals in preseason and is getting better every day in training,” said Iwobi.

“I have seen his qualities over the years.

“He’s a big threat in attack, very intelligent with and without the ball and he’s the kind of player we need, especially as we try to become a bit more dynamic.”

Fulham finished 13th last season after finishing 10th the season before and Iwobi believes Smith Rowe can help Marco Silva’s team get back into the top half of the table.

“I feel like we have at least two players per position now,” he said. “It’s healthy competition. We want to achieve something and get into the top 10.”
