Albemarle County couple left homeless after house fire

Two Albemarle County residents and their three dogs were evacuated after a fire caused $75,000 in damage to their home on the county’s eastern border near Lake Monticello.

Albemarle County Fire Rescue career and volunteer crews were dispatched to a reported fire in the 3300 block of Martin Kings Road at approximately 6:57 p.m. Saturday.

“When firefighters arrived, they noticed smoke coming from the garage and laundry room of the house,” the fire department said in a statement released later in the day. “It took 11 minutes to get the fire under control. There were no injuries.”

The couple, who were left homeless by the fire, are being assisted by the American Red Cross, the fire department added.

The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, but fire officials have determined it was an accident.
