KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 – English actor Daniel Radcliffe has produced a documentary about his Harry Potter stunt double who was paralyzed during the filming of the blockbuster.

David Holmes suffered a spinal injury during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1which left him paralyzed from the neck down,

The 42-year-old former actor and stuntman announced the “secret project” on Instagram yesterday, which he said took four years to complete.

The HBO documentary, The boy who survivedwill include interviews with Radcliffe and Holmes, as well as behind-the-scenes stunt footage of the former, the BBC reported.

“Being a stuntman was my calling and being Harry’s double was the best job in the world,” Holmes wrote on Instagram.

Holmes was a teenage gymnast from Essex when, at the age of eleven, he was chosen to play Radcliffe’s double in the first Harry Potter film.

And the accident during the stunt rehearsal in January 2009 changed his life forever.

Holmes had previously revealed details of his tragic accident, which occurred during a flying scene at Warner Bros Studios in London’s Leavesden district.

In an interview with the Mirror In 2014, he said he was pulled backwards by a high-strength wire “at high speed” during a “jerk back” stunt that mimics the effects of an explosion.

However, Holmes was thrown against a wall and immediately broke his neck.

The film was directed by British filmmaker Dan Hartley. The boy who survived tells the story of Holmes’ coming of age, the close bond he formed with Radcliffe, and how the spinal cord injury turned his life upside down.

“This film tells the story of not only my successes in front of the camera, but also the challenges I face on a daily basis and my general outlook on life after breaking my neck,” said Holmes.

“In the turbulent world we live in right now, I would like to quote Harry: ‘We are only as strong as we are united, and only as weak as we are divided.'”

Holmes thanked the medical staff as well as Harry Potter author JK Rowling and Radcliffe for their support.

He wrote of Radcliffe that they were both “incredibly proud of our time with the Harry Potter films and the joy and comfort they bring to audiences around the world every day.”

It is not the first time the two have worked together, as Radcliffe helped launch Holmes’ podcast Clever stuntswhich includes interviews with other stunt doubles, in 2020.
