CLERMONT, Fla. – A memorial service was held in Clermont on Saturday for fallen Master Deputy Bradley Link, who was killed in an ambush in Lake County on August 2nd.

Coworkers, family and friends spoke at the deputy’s memorial service – including Lake County Sheriff Peyton Grinnell, who revealed new details about the night of Deputy Link’s death. The shooting also left two deputies injured and three of the four suspects dead.

While investigating a suspected burglary, officers were ambushed by a father and two of his daughters, who died and were identified as Michael, Cheyenne and Savannah Sulpizio. Deputy Link was shot in the back and although he tried to crawl out, he was shot several more times after he ran out of bullets.

After being trapped in the house, Deputy Link’s phone rang.

According to Sheriff Grinnell, Brittany Link was on the other end of the line when one of the suspects answered the phone. The suspect asked Brittany, “Who’s there?”

She said, “I’m Brad’s wife. Who are you?”

The suspect then replied: “So you are claiming that you are supposedly the dead man’s wife.”

Brittany also spoke at Deputy Link’s memorial service about his outstanding character and the memories they shared since high school.

Deputy Link’s colleagues also shared fond memories of his impact on their lives and the community he served.

Sheriff Grinnell stated that religious beliefs played a major role in the situation. The house contained a stash of weapons, ammunition and bottled water. There were no cell phones, regular phones or a television, suggesting that the residents were isolated from society. Investigators said they also found “anti-government propaganda” and material from media outlets that appealed to conspiracy theories.

Julie Sulpizio, 48, has since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and many other charges for luring officers to the home. Officers were called to a home in the area because Julie Sulpizio was attacking her neighbors and trespassing on their property.

“The plaintiff stated that she (Sulpizio) was acting religiously, accused them of being sinners, and that she knew ‘what they did,'” the sheriff explained. “They identified Julie Sulpizio as their neighbor, but Julie claims she is ‘Helen, under God’s will.'”

Grinnell said a deputy arrived at the scene and found Sulpizio with her hands behind her back. Despite being told to back away, she approached the deputy, who then drew his taser. Sulpizio approached the deputy, who then warned her.

“During a quiet exchange, Julie Sulpizio explains that she, the group of people present, is involved in pedophilia. She again claims to be ‘Helen’ and she asks one of the victims she abused: ‘Who was your God?'”

The sheriff said Sulpizio told the group, “Julie is in heaven.”

“Then she continued, ‘Look, the thing is, we had to trick Lucy,’ and later we learned that (Lucy) is a name she calls Lucifer.” The sheriff said Sulpizio then pointed at the deputy and said, “You’re one of them.”

Eventually another officer arrived and Sulpizio was handcuffed and taken into custody.

After officers arrested Sulpizio, they decided to check her house down the street. When they arrived, they discovered two dead dogs outside the house and an open window with the screen kicked out, Sheriff Grinnell said. When that seemed suspicious, they called for backup.

Deputies Link and Howell entered the house through the back entrance and went through the living room and hallway. Deputy Link went left and Deputy Howell went right. According to the sheriff, Deputy Link, who had his back turned, was ambushed by Michael Sulpizio, Julie’s husband, who was armed and ready, according to the sheriff.

According to the investigation, footage from Deputy Link’s body camera showed Michael and his daughters discussing suicide before they were found dead with gunshot wounds to the head.
