AC/DC fans don’t say goodbye to the goodnight – The Irish Times

AC/DC fans don’t say goodbye to the goodnight – The Irish Times

The Young brothers Malcolm and Angus named their band AC/DC after seeing the symbol on their sister Margaret’s sewing machine in the early 1970s.

It was a brilliant name for a hard rock band destined to conquer the world, complemented by a brilliant logo design by Los Angeles-born graphic designer Gerard Huerta.

Huerta used the capital letters of the Guttenberg Bible and integrated the lightning bolt into the logo.

Since then, it has become the most popular logo in rock and roll history. According to online music retailer Rush Order Tees, more T-shirts, baseball caps, baby clothes, keychains, patches and tattoos have been made with this logo than any other band in history.

Last Saturday night, it was impossible to escape AC/DC and their ever-present logo in Croke Park. Young and old (there was no denying that there were many ageing rockers in attendance) wore the T-shirt in all its various incarnations. They also wore the glow-in-the-dark devil horns that first became popular after the album and song Highway to Hell.

Everyone was there, not to go gently into the good night, but to rock against the loss of light.
