Aaron Rodgers’ father claimed that his son’s ex-girlfriend, Olivia Munn, spread lies about the family feud to protect her reputation.
The NFL star’s estranged parents, Ed and Darla Rodgers, attacked Munn in an excerpt from Ian O’Connor’s new book, “Out of Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers,” obtained exclusively by The Post on Tuesday.
“She just made something up to make herself look good,” Ed said, adding, “She said the family was broken before she met Aaron, and that’s nonsense.”
Ed explained that he and his wife had attended all of Aaron’s games and even stayed at his house before the “Magic Mike” actress came on the scene.
“We had a great relationship. Nothing bad happened,” Ed added.
Munn claimed during an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show in 2018 that her then-boyfriend cut off contact with his parents eight months before her birth, which Ed called “a lie.”
Darla also denied Munn’s claims that she and Ed used their son’s football career to grow their own businesses.
“I can imagine showbiz families like the Kardashians trying to outdo each other to become famous and stuff. But that’s not our family. Nobody has done anything like that,” Darla said.
In her interview with Cohen, she alleged that Ed, a sports chiropractor, and Luke, the athlete’s brother who sells pictures of the quarterback for his clothing company, were using Aaron to gain an advantage.
“I think family, fame and success can be really complicated when your dreams are tied to your success,” she said at the time
“Their work is directly related to what he does,” she continued. “At the end of the day, there are a lot of complications. I don’t think either side of the street is clean, but I think it’s not OK to try to step on someone’s shoulders and then throw dirt in their face, and I think that’s what they did to him.”
Aaron claimed that Munn was not the reason for the strife in his family. He told O’Connor that she “had nothing to do with all those years before” and explained that their family problems were “deep-rooted,” but declined to go into further detail.
A source stated that Ed and Darla, who are devout Christians, were upset about some of Munn’s actions over the years, including her being open about her sex life with Aaron. The couple also reportedly disapproved of the New York Jets player living with Munn before marriage.
“She said all this and it made Darla angry, really angry,” said someone close to the O’Connor family.
Ed and Darla’s relationship with Aaron fell apart in the winter of 2014, when Munn was living with him in Green Bay.
The “Newsroom” actress and Aaron split in April 2017 after three years together, but his family still doesn’t seem to have reconciled.
Aaron’s parents stressed that they wanted to make things right with their son – no questions asked – as soon as he was ready.
“Yes, we’re all about forgiving and forgetting,” Darla told O’Connor. “We’d love to move on. … The new relationship has to start, and it just feels weird that we can’t even discuss important things with him.”
Ed added: “And we love him unconditionally. No matter what happened, we just want the relationship.”
Aaron, for his part, agreed that reconciliation was “definitely possible.”
Munn secretly married John Mulaney in July. She and the comedian share a 2-year-old son, Malcolm, whom they welcomed in November 2021.
