Well, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder keeps changing the number one spot on Netflix’s top 10 list, but there’s one new addition that the series probably can’t hold on to. That’s season 4 of The Umbrella Academy, the quirky superhero series that’s ending with an abbreviated 6-episode final season.

It’s certainly a bit odd that the series has gone from 10 episodes in all three previous seasons to 6, but it’s also true that practically no one-hour series on Netflix have 10 episodes anymore, usually 6-8. This season ends a five-year saga that began in 2019, and while it wasn’t an all-time huge series for Netflix, it was always successful and Netflix let it finish, which obviously isn’t always the case.

Recently, there was a case in which the showrunner of the “Umbrella Academy”, Steve Blackman, was accused of creating a toxic work environment on the set, which he denies.

“Steve Blackman has overseen thousands of staff, actors and writers over six years and four seasons, building The Umbrella Academy into a beloved series with loyal fans, compelling stories and a dedicated team that made it all possible,” Blackman’s representative said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “These allegations from a handful of disgruntled employees are completely false and outrageous, and in no way reflect the collaborative, respectful and successful work environment that Mr. Blackman built.”

Around the time of this reporting, it was revealed that Blackman’s in-development series, an ambitious video game adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn and a new series, Orbital, would no longer be moving forward. However, those choices were reportedly canceled for other, more mundane reasons regardless of these allegations, and Blackman’s overall deal with Netflix remains in place. And The Umbrella Academy, of course, ended here.

As for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, we’re still waiting for news that Season 2 will be renewed, but as I’ve said many times on this site, with this kind of performance, a low budget, and at least two more seasons of source material to adapt, a renewal is almost certain, and we’ll be seeing more of Pip. It’s too early to hear about that, but I expect we will soon enough.

The rest of the list holds few surprises at the moment and we will be waiting for new series in the coming weeks. However, I expect Umbrella Academy to stay at number 1 for a while.
