Zack Kaplan has the ability to write an easy to read and engaging comic, this is no different in Dark, empty emptiness. In addition to Kaplan’s outstanding writing, there are the stunning illustrations by Chris Shehan. Each panel brings a seemingly normal world to life, but adds the stunning visuals of a black hole. What we get is a beautiful combination of author and artist (as well as colorist and letterer) that really shines on every single page. A unique color palette by Francesco Segala gives the Dark, empty emptiness that highlights Shehan’s illustrations and creates an atmospheric debut issue. Shehan and Segala’s talents are on full display, taking a beautifully written comic to a new level that stands out from other science fiction comics on the market.

Dark, empty void #1 is just further proof that Zack Kaplan (Mindset, Kill all immortals) knows how to captivate a reader with a first edition. We can’t wait to see where the creative team takes the mystery behind the black hole in future issues.
