Packers fans excited after warm-up game against Cleveland

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Many in northeast Wisconsin are looking forward to the return of football on Saturday when the Green Bay Packers travel to Cleveland to face the Browns in a preseason game.

Lambeau Field was quiet, but the Titletown area was bustling with activity as fans prepared for the start of the regular season next month.

We saw a lot of people buying new jerseys, t-shirts and cheese heads.

Saturday’s game is the first of three games on the schedule before the Packers’ opener in Brazil against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Many Packers fans are following the preseason with a special focus on the newly hired star quarterback Jordan Love.

“I think he’s got a good pass defense. So I think they’re going to give him a lot of time in the pocket to get to his receivers. And we have some really outstanding receivers this year,” said Marissa Zuleger of Appleton.

The Packers gave it their all in Cleveland, winning 23-10. Jordan Love had only two pass attempts, but he capitalized on them by completing 2/2 and setting up a 65-yard touchdown to Dontayvion Wicks on the first drive. Running backs Emmanuel Wilson and Jarveon Howard were the most active in the running game. Wilson gained 67 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown, and Howard carried the ball 8 times for 44 yards.

The Packers’ heavily watched kickers made 3 of 3 field goals and 2 of 2 extra points, with Anders Carlson hitting from the 46th and 33rd lines and Greg Joseph hitting from the 35th line.

Rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd suffered a hamstring injury and did not return to play. He previously suffered a hip injury in training camp. The Packers have not yet disclosed the severity of the injury.
