Municipality hosts charity event on Saturday for 4-year-old girl from Antwerp who is battling cancer

ANTWERP, Ohio (WPTA) – A benefit event will be held Saturday in Antwerp for a four-year-old girl who has been diagnosed with a form of leukemia.

Scarlette, a four-year-old girl from Antwerp, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic B-cell leukemia in May.

Scarlette’s mother, Cierra Douglas, says Scarlette was originally admitted to the emergency room in May because of a fever.

At the time, doctors believed her fever was “a viral illness” that would go away with time.

However, Douglas says she soon took Scarlette to an ambulance to have some scans done after she began to limp.

The results of those scans came on May 30, along with a call to Douglas to tell her her cancer diagnosis.

Douglas says Scarlette now has to take oral chemotherapy drugs every day and over the next two years she will start to lose her hair as part of her treatment.

Still, Douglas says her little girl is stronger than she thought she would be for her young age. “She’s battling cancer and she’s a very, very strong girl. I’m very proud of her for going through everything she’s going through because God knows I don’t know how she’s doing it. She’s a strong four-year-old and we’re going to get through this.”

The event will be held from 12pm-8pm at VFW Post 5087 and will include a motorcycle ride, 50/50 raffle, silent auction, items for sale, baked goods for sale and more. All proceeds from the event will go to Scarlette’s family and will be used for medical care, food and travel expenses.

In addition to the benefit, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Scarlette’s family. Click here to donate.
