Shannon Sharpe awards Bobby Finke ,000 bonus after world record in 1500-meter freestyle

Bobby Finke from the USA received a $50,000 bonus from Shannon Sharpe at Nightcap on Friday. Finke broke the world record in the men’s 1500-meter freestyle on the final day of swimming in Paris, clocking a time of 14:30.67.

Sharpe welcomed Finke to his podcast and surprised Finke with a check at the end. He showed Finke the check through the camera to show Finke how proud he and co-host Chad Johnson were from him. Finke finally saw the writing on the check and reacted in shock with “Oh God… oh my God.”

Johnson proposed a race for Finke to win the $50,000: “If you want to get that in Florida, we have to have a race.” Finke responded to the challenge: “I’ll do anything you want… I’ll do anything.”

Finke was the only American to win an individual gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and did so in a world-record time. His victory also helped the United States draw level with Australia with seven gold medals each. The U.S. women’s 4×100 medley relay team ultimately won the final gold of the competition, putting the United States alone atop the medal table with eight gold medals.

In addition to this bonus, Finke was the highest earner from the United States, earning a total of $145,000.00. He was the fifth highest earner overall. Notably, he was the only swimmer from the United States to set an individual world record at the meet.
