Curious how the apocalyptic world in A quiet place After the success of the first two films, the successful horror franchise was expanded to include a prequel, which bears the title A quiet place: day one. John Kransinski, who directed and starred in the first two films, is no longer involved in the latest one and is not listed as a story writer. Day one instead, it was written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, who gave us Nic Cage’s unique culinary thriller Pig in 2021. The cast is led by Lupita Nyong’o (Us), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), Djimon Hounsou, who reprises his role A quiet place part IIand a very cute cat.

A quiet place: day one hit theaters in late June and has already made its way to digital on-demand services just over a month later. We’re still waiting for an official streaming date, but here’s how to watch the film at home in the meantime—and everything else you need to know.

what is A quiet place: day one about?

Day one is set in one of the loudest places in the world: New York City. So what happens when sound-sensitive aliens crash-land in the city that never sleeps? Chaos. That’s the main premise of the apocalyptic Alien prequel.

The story follows Sam (Nyong’o), a terminally ill hospice patient who reluctantly agrees to travel to Manhattan, only to find herself stranded in the city when the terrifying aliens take over. While battling through the alien apocalypse, Sam and her service cat Frodo catch the attention of a young law student named Eric (Quinn). The odd couple (and the cat) embark on a journey through the alien-infested city, and their only hope of survival is to remain absolutely silent.

Is A quiet place: day one worth seeing?

Listen, prequels are hard to get right—and they’re sure to cause a stir. With a critics’ score of 86 percent and an audience score of 73 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, A quiet place: day one I did it right most of the time.

Mashable film editor Kristy Puchko found parts of the film charming. She appreciated Nyong’o and Quinn’s “captivating screen presence” but felt that “the love story at its core fails to shine in the face of the requisite carnage and urban devastation the prequel promises.” As such, the film as a whole wasn’t quite as good as the sum of its parts.

However, given the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, many others felt that the prequel was quite convincing. That’s the best thing about films – everyone can form their own opinion. Horror master Stephen King certainly left his mark on the film.
