The 21-year-old Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat, who won the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle wrestling -57 kg at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, is a product of the Chhatrasal Academy in New Delhi.

The famous wrestling academy has produced several superstars who later represented India on the world stage and won Olympic medals for the country.


For Sehrawat, however, it was home as he was orphaned at the age of 11 after both his parents died at a young age. The academy took him in out of pity but with time and inspiration from world-class athletes in the akhara, he gradually developed into a strong athlete.

He is part of the next generation of wrestlers at the academy who have worked and trained to continue the tradition of winning Olympic medals for the country.

“Chhatrasal Stadium is my home. The wrestlers here are my family. If someone comes and asks me to go somewhere for Diwali, I don’t agree. I make it clear that I am not leaving Chhatrasal. Now people also know that this is my attitude. I also don’t like roaming or driving around Delhi,” Aman told Sportstar.
