The sequel to “Old Guard” received an update upon its release.

Fans have been waiting for news for a long time, now one of the stars finally gives an insight.

Matthias Schoenaerts, who played Booker in “The Old Guard,” said in an interview with Collider: “We shot about a year and a half ago and I think they’re now entering the final stages of post-production.”

“From what I understand, there’s been a change in leadership at Netflix. I believe there’s a different CEO, and that’s causing them to rethink the release and the how and when, and that’s out of my hands. I don’t know.”

He continued, “But I know we’re reaching the final stages of post-production, so it will come up at some point.”

This will come as a relief to fans who haven’t heard much about The Old Guard 2 since newcomers Uma Thurman and Henry Golding joined the cast in June 2022.

In the same interview, Schoenaerts spoke highly of the people he worked with on the film, especially director Victoria Mahoney.

“The people I work with there are friends of mine, so it’s always nice to work with friends and with a great production team and the wonderful director Victoria Mahoney,” he said.

“I’m actually very curious to see it. I haven’t seen anything yet, so I’m curious,” he added. The film was not on Netflix’s official 2024 list, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t come out this year.

The original film was based on a comic book series and quickly became one of Netflix’s most successful films, with positive reviews and praise for the gay relationship it portrayed.
