FIRST WARNING: Severe storms possible this evening

The storms are followed by a really nice Labor Day weekend

Updated: seconds ago

We are closely monitoring the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms through this evening. A powerful cold front is moving across southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. Driven by the heat and humidity, it has already produced thunderstorms across much of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. Storms will continue to move across the region through late this evening. The primary threat will be damaging straight-line wind gusts and large hail, but a few tornadoes are also possible, particularly from Mankato north to central and east-central Minnesota. In addition to the severe threat, the potential for locally heavy rainfall of 1 inch or more is expected. Keep your KEYC First Alert weather app handy this afternoon and evening for the latest observations, warnings and instant alerts from the weather team.
