The NBA is full of talented players at every position. Of course, the Minnesota Timberwolves are fortunate to have several great talents at multiple positions, which led to them being one of the best teams in the league last season. But the biggest name of all is, of course, Anthony Edwards.
Number five was the biggest and most important cog in the Timberwolves’ machine. Minnesota would not have made it to the Western Conference Finals three months ago without his extremely good play. Many believe that Ant, at just 23 years old, is one of the best shooting guards in the league.
We know that Ant ranks highly compared to other players at his position, but where exactly does he rank? Perhaps one of the best ways to quantify this particular discussion is by using a ranking. Here, we’ll look at every shooting guard in the NBA and place them into an appropriate group based on talent and overall performance.
Players: Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, Donovan Mitchell
In this tier, we have the best shooting guards. It’s important to note that the players are not ranked within the tier. But Anthony Edwards has certainly earned his way into this group based on everything he’s accomplished in his four-year career so far. The way he’s performed consistently well in both the regular season and the playoffs secures him a spot at the top.
Booker and Mitchell are the other two SGs in the league’s top three. Booker has been the only constant for the Phoenix Suns over the last nine seasons, making them a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference. Mitchell may have moved around a few times, but his offensive talent is matched by few others at his position.
Players: Desmond Bane, Kyrie Irving, Zach LaVine, Derrick White
While these players are still considered great talents, they are not big enough to make it to the big leagues. However, these guys are great playmakers who can make a difference on a nightly basis.
Players: Tyler Herro, Brandon Miller, Anfernee Simons, Marcus Smart, Dejounte Murray, Austin Reaves, Devin Vassell, Bennedict Mathurin, Donte DiVincenzo, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Herb Jones
Given the amount of talent in the NBA, to call them above average would be a huge compliment. All of these guys bring a certain level of expertise every time they step on the court and bring a certain level of skill either offensively, defensively, or both. These guys are talented, but they wouldn’t be considered mediocre All-Stars right now.
Players: Josh Giddey, Cam Thomas, Jalen Green, Jaden Ivey, Gary Trent Jr., Jalen Suggs, Buddy Hield, Terance Mann, Kevin Huerter, Malik Beasley, Bilal Coulibaly, Keyonte George
These players, who make up the lowest tier on our list, would all be considered average. This, in turn, means that there is no NBA player who truly lacks talent. Each of these guys is serviceable in their role, but a night where they make a difference for their team would be the exception rather than the rule.
