Devin Williams leaves a great memory with his performance against the San Francisco Giants

Devin Williams leaves a great memory with his performance against the San Francisco Giants

Milwaukee Brewers star relief pitcher Devin Williams is back to his usual form. After suffering his first blown save of the season in last week’s painful loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, Williams was in top form on Wednesday night, helping the Brewers to a 5-3 home win over the San Francisco Giants.

With the Brewers only leading by two runs at the start of the ninth inning, Williams was called upon to call it a night. Williams obliged, going 1-2-3 to put an end to the Giants. He got Mike Yastrzemski on a three-pitch flyout. Williams then struck out Thairo Estrada on a five-pitch flyout. Finally, Williams put Grant McCray out on a three-pitch flyout.

With another outstanding performance on the mound, Williams earned his sixth save of the season and improved his numbers to a 2.79 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. This season, Williams has limited opposing hitters to a batting average of just .171.

Williams’ return to form has indeed been a welcome sight for the Brewers. In the loss to the Cardinals, Williams worried fans when he allowed three walks and scored two runs in just two-thirds of an inning, blowing a save, but as he showed on Wednesday, there’s no reason to be too concerned about him.

The Brewers look to close out the Giants series with a win this Thursday, with Milwaukee handing the ball to Aaron Civale.
