Rolly Romero calls himself Devin Haney’s “adoptive father” and questions comeback after beating Garcia

Rolando “Rolly” Romero is back, and he is back with serious trash talk that is aimed at Devin HaneyThe former WBA super lightweight world champion will step into the ring for the first time against Manuel Jaime since he suffered a devastating defeat and lost his title at the hands of Isaac Cruz earlier this year. But you’re probably wondering why Romero is shooting at “The Dream”?

Well, Fight Hub TV caught up with the Las Vegas resident as he trained for his upcoming fight on the opening act of Canelo Alvarez Against Edgar Berlanga on September 14 and asked him about his plans. The reporter asked if he had ever voted against Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. This seems to have prompted the former champion to call himself Haney’s adoptive father while reflecting on Haney’s comeback after Garcia’s loss.

During their conversationRomero considered fighting Garcia and Haney for a while before hanging up the gloves, but he seemed to doubt that Haney would ever recover from the loss he suffered to Garcia in his last appearance in April of this year. “Do you think Devin will recover from all this…” said Romero bluntly.

This also led to Ryan Garcia being banned from the sport for a year by the NYSAC. Regardless, many speculate that this fight had a lasting impact on Devin Haney, who had never suffered a defeat in his professional career. Romero sarcastically claimed: “I think he needs a hug…” and added that Devin’s father, Bill Haney, have never hugged him.

Bill Haney was Devin’s trainer and manager throughout his boxing career, but Romero claimed he would offer Haney the hug his father never gave him. “His adoptive father may be hugging him… I adopted him,” Romero said this in a sarcastic and insulting tone. However, that doesn’t mean Romero is the first to take shots at the Haneys. Bill Haney has done the same thing to Romero in the past.

Bill Haney didn’t mince his words following Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero’s loss to Isaac Cruz. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Bill mocked the former super lightweight titleholder by offering him a job parking their cars. “If you want to park Devin Haney’s 4X4 or the Wraith, the Phantom or the Virgil, you could get a job here,” Haney joked.

He did not stop there, but reminded Romero of his past and suggested that he could also go into his “Stripper” days. “You know, while you work part-time as a stripper, which is what you started out as,” Bill Haney added with a laugh. Haney Sr. also rejected Romero as a candidate, saying: “Devin didn’t put Rolly on the list because we just didn’t see him that way.”

Still, the trash-talking relationship between Rolly Romero and the Haneys doesn’t seem to be over after the loss to Isaac Cruz. However, whether a boxing match between them will happen remains to be seen. Do you think Romero and Haney should fight?
