We used to be introduced to the video game world of Tron. Well, in Tron: Ares As Evan Peters’ villain Julian Dillinger says in the clip revealed at D23 on Friday, “We’re not going there, they’re coming here.”

The light cycles from Tron can be seen racing through the city streets, leaving thin laser-like trails and splitting cars in half on the road. Jared Leto plays the red-clad Tron-like character, while Greta Lee plays a “brilliant programmer whose great work gave birth to Ares.” The actress was onstage at the Honda Center with Leto, Peters and Jeff Bridges.

In the trailer’s voiceover, Leto says, “I came here to find something… something important.” We see him racing around on a light bike with Lee’s character.

Bridges, the hacker and original video game character Kevin Flynn, appears at the end as an apparition in a white robe.

Joachim Rønning directed this reboot of the franchise that was born in 1982. The film is about Leto’s highly advanced program Ares, which is sent on a dangerous mission from the digital world to the real world, which marks humanity’s first encounter with AI beings. Also starring: Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson.

The first two Tron Films grossed $450 million at the box office worldwide.

Tron: Ares will be released on October 10, 2025.
