The 2024 fall television premieres are just around the corner and there will be a big change to ABC’s Thursday night schedule: Doctor Odyssey. Joshua Jackson’s new show not only replaces Station 19 on Thursday, but it takes Grey’s Anatomy‘s usual time slot. The stakes already seem high for the project to be a success, so it’s only fitting that a new video depicts an ocean crisis as it 9-1-1 earlier this year. Jackson’s character may need all of his – to quote the new series’ slogan – “Big Deck Energy” for this maritime appearance!
It’s not difficult to understand the similarities either. Doctor Odyssey was co-created by Ryan Murphy, who also co-created 9-1-1. In the new project, Max (Josua Jackson) joins the crew of a luxury cruise ship as a ship’s doctor. He has a small but capable team to handle medical crises miles from the mainland, but there will be plenty of fun alongside the work. According to the latest trailer, Max and Co. could also face the biggest monster wave of primetime since Bobby and Athena in 9-1-1The first episodes of on ABC! Check it out:

Wouldn’t it be nice if everything on board the Odyssey was more luxury and less crisis? Honestly, the shots of the ocean and weather conditions in this trailer make me wonder if Doctor Odyssey used the rolling room, which 9-1-1 built for his cruise ship crisis. It is interesting that ABC decided to film this new show between 9-1-1 at 8 p.m. ET and Grey’s Anatomy at 10 p.m. ET on Thursdays. The network didn’t stay with two firefighter dramas in one evening for long, as Station 19 was cancelled, while 9-1-1 has been extended. Does a double dose of medical drama on Thursday mean trouble?
It is too early to say, but Doctor Odyssey has a lot to offer right from the start. Joshua Jackson is of course a TV veteran in all genres, thanks to roles in shows from Dawson’s Creek: The mysterious setting To Edge area To Dr. Death. He is from HamiltonIt is Phillipa Soo, The Giftedby Sean Teale and MiamiVice Icon Don Johnson. Check out the poster for the show, complete with tagline:
I’m not sure what “Big Deck Energy” will mean for this high-stakes, high-seas drama, but I’m excited to find out! There’s not long to wait. Doctor Odyssey Premieres Thursday, September 26 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC, between 9-1-1 Season 8 at 8 p.m. ET and Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 at 10 p.m. ET.
NBC’s Thursday night program – consisting of law and order, Law & Order: SVUAnd Found – as well as CBS’s Thursday night program – Georgie & Mandy’s first marriage, Ghosts, MatlockAnd Elsbeth – doesn’t return until October, so the competition on network television may not be too great on September 26. If you don’t want to watch Doctor Odyssey If you didn’t catch the episodes live on ABC but are still interested, you can watch them the next day with a Hulu subscription.
