Children ages 7 to 15 learn how to mod, code, and create games at Affinity Esports’ Game Creation & Coding Fundamentals summer camp. From Monday, August 19, to Friday, August 23, the kids were able to learn the basics of coding and socialize under the guidance of instructors. —Bee Photos, Visca

On Tuesday, August 20, attendees learned from Affinity Esports coach Justin Morin about the importance of loops in game design. Loops are used to repeat and simplify code, allowing the same command to run for as long as someone wants without having to type it over and over again. Morin shows an example of a loop in the video game Minecraft, where the sun and moon continuously move through the sky to simulate the passage of time while playing the game.

Ava Henriques learns about loops by playing a game in the visual programming language Scratch that lets users create codes by dragging and dropping them. In this game, participants learn to repeat the same motion command multiple times by attaching a yellow “repeat” block to them.
