A World of Warcraft Fan recently discovered SpongeBob, his home and some of his friends hidden under the sea of The war within. This little piece of Bikini Bottom is located on Dorn Island, the first zone of the new World of Warcraft expansion.

The war within is officially live and brings new story chapters, hero talents and an increase in World of Warcraft level cap. One of the most exciting things in the expansion, however, is Khaz Algar itself – the new continent of The war withindivided into four zones: The Isle of Dorn, the Ringing Depths, Hallowfall and Azj-Kahet.

As we explore the first of these new areas, Wow Fan and Redditor sam0wise discovered a charming reference to SpongeBob SquarePants. Far off the northwest coast of the Isle of Dorn in WoW: The War Withinsam0wise found an underwater plant that looked strikingly similar to a pineapple. Underneath, they noticed a sponge, a pink starfish, a snail shell, and a crab with a hamburger – a charming nod to SpongeBob and his best friend Patrick, his pet Gary the snail, and Mr. Krabs, the owner of the Krusty Krab restaurant.

SpongeBob Easter Egg in WoW: The War Within

• Found underwater at coordinates 24.9, 29.3 on Dorn Island.
• A sponge, a starfish, a snail and a crab with a hamburger, each referring to SpongeBob, Patrick, Gary and Mr. Krabs.

This special Easter egg is well hidden – to find it you have to swim quite far off the coast of Dorn Island. SpongeBob Crew is found far north of Dalaran, where it crashes in the intro scenario. WoW: The War Withinnorthwest of Storm’s Watch and Dornogal. Players should bring a water mount and potions, classes, or races for breathing if they seek it out.

Sam0wise’s other fans were delighted with this particular reference. Many were shocked at how detailed the Easter egg was, while others were sad that there was no octopus or squirrel to represent Squidward or Sandy. Regardless, most applauded sam0wise for the reference, as it was clearly placed way off the beaten path.

There were other SpongeBob References in World of Warcraft before. During Shadowlandsthe Ardenweald fairy Seaharper had a dialog box that talked about a sponge and his starfish friend, the flavor text for the Crimson Bicorn hat and the Crusty Crawler mount from the Wow Trading Post and the two reference the show’s iconic theme song, and a crab named Crusty can be found in a reef off the north coast of Desolace. The latest reference to SpongeBob SquarePants is not the first in Wowand given the show’s importance in pop culture, it probably won’t be the last, either.
