And if you’re a fan, you’ll also know that the late, great Alan Rickman played the series character Severus Snape.

Daniel and Alan appeared together in the eight films of the franchise. This is a much spent a lot of time together on set, and it’s no surprise that the actors developed a good rapport (more on that in a moment).

But as Daniel recently said in an appearance on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz When he first heard the podcast, he was so intimidated by the legendary actor that he feared he might be hostile towards him.

The topic came up when Josh played Daniel a clip from a 2016 interview with Alan that Daniel had never heard before. In it, he praised the child actors of the Harry Potter Franchise.

“Thank you for showing that. I’ve never seen that before. Thank you,” Daniel replied, before saying he was “intimidated” by Alan when they first started working together. “How can you not be with that voice?” he said.

“Even when you hear that voice, you forget how deep it was until it resonates inside you. I was so intimidated by him in the first three films. I was terrified of him and thought, ‘This guy hates me.'”

Daniel also told another touching story about Alan – how he once cut short his vacation to see Daniel in the 2007 Broadway revival of the play. Equus.

“He went out with me afterwards and we talked about it. He was one of the first people to say, ‘You should look into voice training and research all that stuff.'”
