In recent years, more and more developers have been offering people the opportunity to test their games in advance.

For a long time, demos were unpopular with game companies and it was difficult to try games before buying them.

Considering how expensive games are these days (many of them sell for £70/$70), it puts a lot of people off pre-ordering a game before they know if it’s any good.

Fortunately, demos are becoming popular again and many companies now offer people the opportunity to play the first part of their games for free.

The latest game with a free demo is Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, a remake of Disney’s popular 3D platform game.

Epic Mickey was originally released for the Nintendo Wii in 2010, so this is the first time many people have the chance to play it.

This isn’t a simple remaster. Instead, developer Purple Lamp has rebuilt the game from the ground up.

Aside from being redesigned for modern controllers (instead of the Wiimote’s motion controls), the entire game has been significantly improved graphically.

The story and gameplay will remain largely the same, but the team has made it run at 60 frames per second and 4K resolution.

Nintendo Switch and PS5 players can use their controllers’ gyroscope controls to mimic the motion controls of the original game.

Purple Lamp has also added a photo mode so users can share images from the game with others.

The demo for Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is now available to players on all platforms.

This means you can get it for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

If you want to try the game for yourself, all you have to do is search for “Epic Mickey: Rebrushed” in your platform’s store.

For consoles, you can do this either directly from your system or from your computer or the associated phone app for PS and Xbox.

Just make sure you select the demo rather than the pre-order button on these store pages and you should be able to download the software immediately.

You can then play the first part of the game, no purchases are necessary.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed will be released on September 24, 2024 on all of the above consoles.
