Flags fly at half-mast in memory of former Wisconsin lawmaker

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Flags across the state will fly at half-staff Thursday to honor a former Wisconsin state legislator who died last week, Gov. Tony Evers’ office said.

James Soletski died on Tuesday, August 20. He was 75 years old.

The flag is lowered in accordance with the day on which the services for Soletsky are held, which are held in Green Bay. The flag order is valid from sunrise to sunset on Thursday.

Representative Soletski was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2006 and served two terms in the 88th Congressional District. He served as Chairman of the Energy and Utilities Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Elections and Campaign Reform Committee and the Consumer Protection Committee.

“Rep. Soletski was a lifelong Wisconsinite and dedicated to serving others and the greater Green Bay area,” said Governor Evers. “Kathy and I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and neighbors during this time of grief.”

Soletski grew up in New Franken and graduated from Preble High School and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Before entering the State Assembly, he worked in the energy industry for more than 20 years.
