UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State senior tight end Tyler Warren was named to the Mackey Award Watch List on Thursday.

The John Mackey Award is given annually to the best tight end in college football.

Has played in 40 games throughout his career, 15 of them in the starting line-up.

Received 2023 All-Big Ten Third Team honors from the coaches and honorable mention from the media.

Named Academic All-Big Ten.

Received the Keystone Award from Penn State, sharing the honor with Abdul Carter, Theo Johnson and Kevin Winston Jr.

Winner of the Bob Mitinger Memorial Award as the ultimate teammate.

Has caught 49 passes for 606 yards and 11 touchdowns in his career, as well as two rushing scores.

Has caught seven passes over 20 yards during his career.

Has 11 career touchdown receptions, ranking 18th all-time at Penn State and fourth among PSU tight ends.

Caught 34 passes for 422 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

His seven touchdown receptions ranked first in the Big Ten and third in the nation among tight ends. His 422 yards were fourth-most among Big Ten tight ends.

Fourth in the Big Ten with seven touchdown receptions.

According to Coaches By The Numbers, he ranked seventh nationally among tight ends in red zone catches (9).

Together with Theo Johnson and Khalil Dinkins, there are 16 receiving touchdowns by tight ends, the most in the country in the 2023 season.

Penn State was the only FBS team in 2023 with multiple tight ends scoring 7+ receiving touchdowns.

Had a career-high six catches against Delaware, including a 2-yard touchdown, and caught an 11-yard touchdown against Illinois.

Scored two touchdowns against Iowa in the third quarter with 2-yard and 7-yard catches.

Against UMass, he made a 7-yard touchdown catch.

At Maryland, he caught four passes for 51 yards and scored an 8-yard touchdown.

There was also an 8-yard touchdown grab at Michigan State.

He caught five passes for 127 yards, which is a career high and was his first 100-yard game. He caught a 75-yard pass in the first quarter, which is a career high, and added another 22-yard pass in the fourth quarter.

The John Mackey Award is named for NFL Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey, who played 10 years in the NFL and was selected to the Pro Bowl five times. Mackey was selected to All-NFL three times and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team and the league’s 50th Anniversary Team. He played in two NFL Championship Games and two Super Bowls, leading the Baltimore Colts to victory in Super Bowl V.

The John Mackey Award Selection Committee will announce its eight semifinalists on Tuesday, October 29, and its three finalists on Tuesday, November 26.

The winner will be announced live at the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN on December 12, 2024.

Penn State’s season opener at West Virginia on Aug. 31 will be televised at noon on FOX. The Nittany Lions return 42 key players from last year’s roster – 17 on offense, 22 on defense and three on special teams. They also return 16 starters – seven on offense, seven on defense and two on special teams.
