Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions contains several Easter eggs for fans of the franchise to discover, including the infamous low-resolution Hagrid model that has reached meme status.

Following the release of Hogwarts Legacy, a game that was criticized for not featuring Quidditch, Harry Potter fans are now getting a game dedicated to the sport. Quidditch Champions lets players take to the skies as popular characters like Harry, Ron, and Draco and compete against each other in single and multiplayer modes.

Ahead of release, the Wizarding World website has shared information about the game’s Easter eggs, one of which is a paper mask that allows players to look like the incredibly inferior Hagrid model from the PlayStation 1 era.

“If you’ve been online in the last few years, you’ve probably seen this iconic Hagrid image as a meme. Now it’s back!” the post reads. “Yes, in what could be described as the ultimate Easter egg, players can use a paper mask in the game that’s shaped like Hagrid’s wonderfully low-res visage! We’re getting nostalgic just thinking about it.”

The low-poly character model itself comes from the companion game to the film “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, which was released in 2001 for the PlayStation 1.

This game gave the popular Hogwarts groundskeeper a strange and hilariously disturbing appearance that some compared to that of a blobfish, leading many online to jokingly refer to this version of the character as “Haggord.”

PS1 Hagrid isn’t the only Easter egg Harry Potter fans can look forward to in the upcoming game. The same post also reveals that Quidditch Champions includes Harry’s unconventional first catch of the Golden Snitch and the famous moment when he says “up” to lift a broom for the first time.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be released digitally on September 3, 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The physical release will be on November 8, 2024, with a Nintendo Switch version planned for the 2024 holidays.
