While speculation is rife about how Warner Bros might implement the updated magical adventures, fans are also wondering how the most popular characters will be cast. While Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson made it clear during discussions that they have no interest in returning to the franchise as familiar faces, one actor surprisingly took the spotlight. It is none other than Matthew Lewis, who increased the excitement and anticipation with his desire to return.

Hold on to your brooms, Potterheads, because Warner Bros is ready to release Harry Potter Reboot. The studio plans to offer a fresh approach to JK Rowling’s billion-dollar franchise and announced its decision to return with a reboot in the form of a series that offers an authentic and comprehensive representation of all the major characters from the books.

While Warner Bros.’ announcement left fans in a frenzy, people became overly curious and wanted to know more about the cast. Both stars of the Golden Trio have repeatedly expressed their disinterest in the Harry Potter reboot, when Daniel Radcliffe intentionally noted that he would prefer new actors in the series as it will be a fresh approach. In conversation with Access to HollywoodRadcliffe explained that if the studio were to pursue a new series, it would have to cast the iconic roles with new actors rather than hiring the original actors from the film series.

I think it’s like they’re starting a new series. Someone else would be playing Harry, so it would be very strange if I showed up. I’m very curious to see what other people do with it. I’ve drawn a comparison to a story like Sherlock Holmes. I think the Potter book series was always meant to be more than an interpretation or a franchise, so it will be cool to see how the torch is passed.

And as for Emma Watson, The Direct reported that JK Rowling’s controversial comments posed a bit of an obstacle for Watson, who is a vocal advocate for human rights and feminism. Since Rowling and Watson have different views on trans rights, the Hermione Granger actress did not seem so open to working with the British author.

Matthew Lewis has chosen a character in case he returns to the reboot

But in a magical twist that has thrilled fans, Matthew Lewis, known as Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter Movies, has expressed his desire to return in the reboot. During the Harry Potter Panel at MegaCon Orlando (via People), when the stars were asked about their desire to return in the new series, Lewis revealed his unexpected but happy wish.

Matthew Lewis was initially hesitant about returning because he was too old for the role of Neville and it would be a challenge for him to follow in the footsteps of other actors. However, he replied that he “no idea” who he would play. Lewis expressed his respect and admiration for the phenomenal performances of his co-stars and colleagues, but initially refused to participate in the wand-wielding adventures.

Gosh, I have no idea. It’s also very difficult because everyone has just done such a great job. I honestly don’t think there’s anyone I would even try to play.

Nevertheless, after some stress, Matthew Lewis was able to secure a new role for the upcoming Harry Potter Reboot. Forget about casting spells as Neville, the actor mentioned that he has his eye on Professor Remus Lupin in the new series. Lewis was willing to trade in his Gryffindor colours for a pair of practical professorial robes and expressed his desire to play the ever-charming member of the Marauders – Moony!

(I’d be) too old to play Neville again. (But) based purely on when I read the books, Professor Lupin was the character I liked. The incomparable David Thewlis could never be topped. (But) If I tried, that’s one thing I would do.

Matthew Lewis admitted that his keen interest in the popular Defence Against the Dark Arts professor is not only due to his admiration for actor David Thewlis, but also claimed that he would happily trade in his old wand for a new kind of Hogwarts magic. So while Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson may sit out, Lewis seems ready to take on a new magical persona.

Harry Potter Movies are available on Max.
