On Thursday, flags will fly at half-mast in memory of a congressman from the state of Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Flags in Wisconsin will be flown at half-staff Thursday to honor a former state representative for the Green Bay area.

James “Jim” Soletski died last Tuesday, August 20. He was 75 years old.

Soletski grew up in New Franken. He graduated from Green Bay Preble High School and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

After a career in the energy industry, he ran for state Assembly in 2006 and represented the 88th Assembly District for two terms from 2007 to 2011. He served as chairman of the Energy and Utilities Committee and vice-chairman of the Election and Campaign Reform Committee and the Consumer Protection Committee.

According to his obituarySoletski was a national representative of Al-Anon and a leader of the social rights group JOSHUA.

“Rep. Soletski was a lifelong Wisconsinite and dedicated to serving others and the greater Green Bay area,” Governor Evers wrote in a statement. “Kathy and I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and neighbors during this time of grief.”

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., followed by a time of confession at 5 p.m. before burial at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
