Kelly Monaco’s “General Hospital” exit: fans are outraged

Fans of “General Hospital” are outraged about Kelly Monaco’s departure from the soap opera series.

Monaco, who has played Sam McCall on “Port Charles” on “GH” since 2003, will appear in her longtime role for the last time this fall, USA TODAY confirmed Tuesday.

After news of the “Dancing with the Stars” alum’s exit from the series broke, her followers on X and Instagram showed their support for the “GH” star – and fans were not happy with the decision.

The two-time Daytime Emmy Award nominee, who first starred as Livvie Locke on the “GH” spinoff series “Port Charles” before joining the flagship series, is a fan favorite. The Pennsylvania native won the first-ever Mirrorball Trophy in 2005 alongside her partner Alec Mazo on the first season of “DWTS.”

She later returned to the series for the 2012 All-Star season with her professional dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy, where she finished in third place.

“Kelly did NOTHING to deserve this,” fans say after Kelly Monaco’s “General Hospital” exit

On “X,” fans lashed out at Frank Valentini, the executive producer of the ABC soap opera, writing, “Imagine Kelly Monaco getting rehired and Frank getting fired. Poetic justice.”

One X user wrote, “Kelly Monaco has done NOTHING to deserve this and that’s all I’m going to say about it.” Another said, “Kelly Monaco has been disrespected by Frank, Varni and their writers for YEARS. Constantly sidelined and why? Not that Sam (McCall) has ever fought for material.”

Another wrote: “The disrespect shown to Kelly Monaco and many of the female cast members of Port Charles is ridiculous. This is awful. Sam is one of the best characters and the poor service the writers gave the character is why this train is leaving. Make it right!”
