NYT “Connections” August 28: Clues and answers for game #444

A new day means a new Connections Puzzle; if you are struggling with today’s, Newsweek is here to help.

Started by The New York Times In June last year, the popular puzzle game became the publication’s second most played game, behind Wordleanother word puzzle.

If you have never played, Connections challenges players to uncover threads that connect a series of words. Instructions on how to play are below. Clues and answers to today’s puzzle are towards the end of the article, so scroll down carefully if you want to figure them out for yourself.

How to play “Connections”

The rules of Connections are simple. Each day, players are presented with 16 words that they must sort into four different categories. For example, Monday’s puzzle linked the words “consent,” “blessing,” “agreement,” and “support” in the “official approval” category.

Each of the four categories has its own color that indicates the level of difficulty. Yellow is considered the easiest category, followed by green, blue, and purple. Players choose four words that they think are related. If they are correct, they light up, revealing the color of the level of difficulty, and are removed from the board.

However, if a player guesses incorrect word groups four times, the game is over and he is defeated. There is no time limit to the game.

The player can reshuffle the board at any time in the game so that the 16 words are randomly rearranged. Players must also be careful because sometimes the game contains red herrings and it looks like some words are connected when they are not.
