Reports: Dolphins WR Odell Beckham Jr. begins season on PUP list | National

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and others are anxiously awaiting to see wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in a Dolphins uniform and will remain uncertain until October. Beckham will reportedly begin the 2024 season – his first in Miami – on the physically unable to perform list. Under NFL rules, he would have to miss the first four games of the regular season and would be eligible to return for an AFC East matchup at New England on Oct. 6. Tagovailoa said he spent time with the veteran wide receiver off the field. But the quarterback was unable to take the field with Beckham during training camp. “Cool guy, 100 percent. But does that translate? Does our relationship translate to the field? I can’t tell you that because I haven’t had any workouts with him yet. And that’s just the plain truth,” Tagovailoa said. NFL Network reported Beckham is still recovering from unspecified offseason surgery. Beckham, 31, signed a one-year, $8.25 million contract with the Dolphins, his fifth NFL team. He was released by the Baltimore Ravens in March. Miami head coach Mike McDaniel said earlier this month he would take Beckham as “week to week” and wouldn’t push him to practice if the veteran wasn’t ready. McDaniel said Beckham had already convinced his teammates he’s a hard worker without being on the field during live workouts. “What you don’t want, and what I know Odell doesn’t want either, is to go on the field and then get off it,” McDaniel said. “So we’re just preparing guys to be the version of themselves where they play with confidence and conviction. … Odell and his teammates know he’s a hard worker because he shows them that every day when he’s back on the field. He didn’t sign up for football to sit in meetings. Although my meetings are super fun, I don’t think that was the case. He’s working on getting back on the field.” Beckham played in 14 games last season (six starts) and caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns. In the playoffs with the Ravens, he added four receptions for 34 yards. A three-time Pro Bowl candidate, Beckham was signed as a third option to Tagovailoa behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The New York Giants selected him with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and he also played for the Cleveland Browns (2019-21), Los Angeles Rams (2021) and Ravens. Beckham missed the 2022 season while recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the Rams’ victory in Super Bowl LVI. In his career, he has 566 receptions for 7,932 receiving yards and 59 touchdowns in 110 games (97 starts). –Field Level Media
