Three major successes for a jungle treehouse in Ligar Bay

The project won the Nelson Marlborough Regional Award for new home between 150m2 and 300m2a Special Commendation Award for Interiors and the Regional Award for Resene Colour in Design. The ADNZ judges were impressed by the intricate elevation of the stream, which sits high above neighbouring houses.

Comprising two small pavilions, the house is nestled in the bush and overlooks Ligar Bay. It is designed for residents to relax and enjoy the scenery. The owners were instrumental in bringing the project to fruition, favouring the use of timber, contrasting concrete and metal details.

“Its distinct modules create a hierarchy of spaces, each with stunning sea views, so that each part of the home has a unique connection to the surrounding landscape. A private retreat with a bedroom and bathroom featuring a luxurious sunken bathtub allows residents to relax while fully immersing themselves in the tranquil landscape. The thoughtful landscaping, highlighted by the pathway that connects the two forms, reinforces the home’s connection to its surroundings and promises to become even more integral over time as the vegetation matures and flourishes,” the judges commented.

The national ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards will be held in Rotorua on 1 November. All regional winners are automatically eligible for a national award.
The full list of winners will be announced on the ADNZ website along with further awards updates.
