The AirPower History Tour brings World War II aircraft to Lincoln

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Classic World War II aircraft will be on display here over the next few days.

They are here with a nonprofit organization called Commemorative Air Force, based in Dallas.

They preserve historic aircraft and exhibit them throughout the country.

This group, led by a B-29 Superfortress named “FIFI,” is open to the public at Lincoln Airport.

The five planes will be there until Sunday and the price is $20 for adults and $10 for children.

Anyone who wants to fly on the plane must expect to pay at least a few hundred dollars.

The organization’s goal is to bring history alive and show appreciation to the men and women who flew during the war. Volunteers at the nonprofit said that message usually gets through.

“I talk to so many people, whether they’re just passing by on a tour or they’re actual riders, who say they appreciate those young men from back then even more now,” said tour leader Cheryl Hilber. “I think it’s so important for us to keep the memories of that generation alive.”

Each aircraft has a pilot present who will tell you more about the history of each aircraft and its use in the war.

The entrance is located on NW 36th Street in the Air Park and the address is 3520 NW 36th St.
