A restaurant in the Dallas-Fort Worth area has made it into the top 20 of Southern Living’s annual list of best new barbecue joints.
The selection is not necessarily new in concept, Dayne’s Craft BBQ in Aledo takes 6th place overall.
It operated for years as a pop-up store and a permanent fixture at Lola’s Trailer Park & Saloon in Fort Worth before opening its first brick-and-mortar location in 2024. Previously, it had a spot under Texas monthly The 50 best barbecue restaurants in 2021.
In addition to the brisket, Southern Living has also discovered Dayne’s smoked pork belly and Fritos pie beans, as well as the eatery’s smash burgers. We’ve already touted the jalapeño Havarti sausage.
Texas was the second most represented state with five picks, behind South Carolina, which had seven picks, including first-place Palmira BBQ in Charleston. North Carolina had enough for the third most with four picks.
The other four locations in Texas were Barb’s BQ in Lockhart (No. 2), Brisket & Rice in Houston (No. 9), Leroy & Lewis in Austin (No. 13) and Reese Bros Barbecue in San Antonio (No. 17).

North Texas is no stranger to Southern Living’s list of best new barbecue joints. Last year, Goldees in Fort Worth, Cattleack BBQ in Dallas and Hurtado’s in Arlington made the list.
