NBCUniversal also has the broadcast rights to the films, which means Peacock shares the streaming rights with Max. All of this is to say that if you were wondering why the Harry Potter Movies are never on Netflix because they don’t have the coveted rights.

Fantasy film The School for Good and Evil is a great option for the family set in a different school setting. Sophia Anne Caruso plays Sophie and Sofia Wylie plays Agatha, best friends who are sent to two different schools: the School of Good and the School of Evil. Believing they don’t belong at their respective schools, the girls try to transfer, but must prove themselves to do so. Stranger Things is one of Netflix’s most successful series and for good reason. With gripping action, deeply felt relationships and fresh humor, it appeals to all age groups. The science fiction series is about a group of friends who, after meeting a mysterious girl, must work together to save the world. Millie Bobby Brown is fantastic in the lead role of Eleven, a former test subject with magical powers. Similar to Harry Potter, Stranger Things tells a great story about friendship, found family and supernatural powers.

Four seasons over, Stranger Things has established itself as one of the best and biggest shows in Netflix history. The fifth and final season will return sometime in 2025.

The only entry on this list that does not contain any fantasy elements is Enola Holmesbut there are other similarities with the Harry Potter Franchise. In the film, Millie Bobby Brown plays the title character, the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes, who wants to solve her own mysteries. After her mother disappears, Enola takes it upon herself to find out what happened. Along the way, she meets a boy her age and they embark on their respective adventures together. Like the young characters of Harry PotterEnola is incredibly determined and ambitious. She goes to great lengths to solve a mystery, and her fearless nature is incredibly sweet.

Enola Holmes spawned a sequel, 2022’s Enola Holmes 2which is also streamed on Netflix.

Rated PG, this popular children’s film tells the timeless story of a smart, kind-hearted young girl who isn’t dealt a good hand in life. Her parents don’t want her and make fun of her for wanting to pursue hobbies like reading and studying. Matilda is incredibly smart for her age, and as she learns to take care of herself, she even discovers powers that other people don’t have. Like Harry Potter, Matilda must find her own family.

Luckily, when Matilda goes to school, her kind-hearted teacher takes her under her wing and the two develop a life-changing relationship. The film stars Mara Wilson in the title role, Danny DeVito plays her father and Rhea Perlman her mother. DeVito also directed.

Another option on the list for younger viewers is Netflix’s A series of sad events. With Neil Patrick Harris in the role of Count Olaf, the series is about three children who are moved from one foster home to another after the death of their parents. Count Olaf, who claims to be a relative but actually only wants the children’s inheritance, takes the children into his care. Fans of the A series of sad events Books will definitely love this series, which ran for three seasons. While the series may not be a typical fantasy story, it is set in a strange universe that is different from our own.

A series of sad events is similar to Harry Potter It’s about a group of kids who must fend for themselves against threats with ulterior motives. As they grow up and learn about life, they must also figure out who they can trust and how to find out the truth.
