Kelly Ripa revealed that she once jumped off a boat to talk to wild dolphins

Morning TV queen Kelly Ripa has officially started trying to recruit new aquatic subjects for her kingdom.

The Live Her co-host made a hilarious revelation on Tuesday’s taped episode of the popular talk show as she recalled how she once tried to bridge the gap between humans and marine mammals on a trip to Mexico for a friend’s 50th birthday party.

“They rented a boat for sunset cocktails. Suddenly we were in the water surrounded by wild dolphins,” Ripa, 53, told the audience after her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos spoke about scientific advances in animal communication.

Then things got a little strange.

“We had just done the show in Miami and went to the Seaquarium where I swam with the dolphins. We recorded a piece where we communicate with the dolphins. So I, Kelly Ripa, jumped in the water and said, ‘I know how to talk to the dolphins!’ I thought, ‘I’m going to summon them!'”

Consuelos and Ripa both laughed as the latter continued with her story – including the moment when her friend warned her about the dangers of the deep.

“Our friend Brian was standing at the bow of the boat and said, ‘Kel, get back in the boat. These are wild dolphins, not trained dolphins,'” Ripa added. “But in my head I thought I could talk to the dolphins because I had been speaking to them so fluently.”

This revelation is not the first development in the dispute between wildlife and the Ripa-Consuelos family. Just in May, Consuelos had told audiences about an incident on the beach in which a flock of plovers dive-bombed the family, leading to a confrontation with a man who approached the group amid the chaos.

“He says, ‘You have to leave those birds alone!'” Consuelos said, while Ripa jumped in: “And Mark said, ‘Well, they have to go us alone!'”
