PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are searching for a 17-year-old and a child who may be as young as 10 in connection with several car thefts and gunpoint robberies last week.
Police released several surveillance videos Monday showing the two boys. Police said the pair may be responsible for four incidents that occurred between August 16 and August 22 in different parts of North Philadelphia.
The first incident occurred on August 16 at approximately 9:50 p.m. in the 1000 block of West Girard Avenue. A victim was sitting in front of his vehicle when the two approached and took the vehicle.
Then, around 2 a.m. on Aug. 18, the two walked to a parked vehicle in the 1300 block of West Cumberland Street and took it from the victim who was sitting inside. Police said the two were first seen on surveillance cameras at Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue before walking about nine blocks to the location.
Police said the boys were involved in an accident on Aug. 21 with the car stolen from Cumberland Street. The accident occurred at about 4:45 a.m. at the corner of Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue. The two then walked two blocks north to the 1300 block of West Ontario Street.
There, they again found someone sitting in a parked car. Police said the couple knocked on the window with a gun and then robbed the victim’s vehicle.
The most recent incident occurred in the 2000 block of West Girard Avenue. On August 22, just before 6 a.m., the boys approached a 74-year-old woman walking to her car, pushed her to the ground and took her keys and wallet.
Police described the older suspect as 17 years old and about 5’8″ tall. The younger suspect is said to be 10 to 12 years old and no taller than 5’0″.
