KELLY Monaco has played the role of Sam McCall in “General Hospital” since 2003 and will now surprisingly leave the soap opera.
After more than two decades on the ABC soap opera, Kelly will soon be leaving her role as Sam. Her final appearance on the soap is scheduled for this fall – and fans are anything but happy with the news.

According to reports, it was “not Kelly’s decision to leave the soap opera” and she was even “surprised” by the news, according to Soap Opera Network.
The broadcaster also states that Sam will be “killed off” in the soap opera and her final appearance on the show is just weeks away.
After filming more than 2,000 episodes for the soap opera, fans are devastated that the soap star is being fired this fall.
“Kelly Monaco is the reason I started watching GH,” wrote one fan on X. “Now I’m done. Adios GH and I mean that in more ways than one.”
“HUGE MISTAKE”
“They made a HUGE mistake. Using Kelly in the commercial to welcome back Steve Burton and then firing her is despicable. She is an absolute gem,” they continued.
A second fan then vowed to never watch the show again if Kelly’s character Sam is dropped, noting: “This is absolutely devastating and if Sam/Kelly leave I will never watch @GeneralHospital again.”
“Sam is one of the best characters and Kelly is a long-time veteran. This is terrible.”
“This is a completely ridiculous decision by GH. I can’t believe they are doing this to Kelly Monaco, a seasoned actress, and her character. Sam is desperately needed on the show,” a third added.
And a fourth also vowed never to tune in again, writing: “This is a sad day. I will not watch anymore when she leaves. She is the reason I watch the way she is…
“The characters we love are unrecognizable and show no development. That’s why the ratings are so bad. Please pull yourselves together and find a solution so that Sam stays.”
Kelly joined the soap in 2003 after working on the spin-off series Port Charles, where she played Livvie Locke from 2000 to 2003.
When Kelly joined General Hospital as Sam McCall, she was introduced as a con artist.
Kelly’s character is the biological daughter of mafia boss Julian Jerome (played by William deVry) and lawyer Alexis Davis (played by Nancy Lee Grahn).

In the soap opera, Sam is also the illegal adopted daughter of Cody McCall (played by Stanley Kamel).
