CASSADAGA – At a recent Cassadaga Town Council meeting, safety concerns were raised regarding two roads in the village.

The safety concerns were brought to the attention of Chautauqua County’s Drew Rodgers and John Penhollow. Township Supervisor Bill Astry highlighted Maple Avenue and Dale Drive as the areas of most concern. Both are county roads and speeding violations are common, even though pedestrians regularly use the streets for walking and biking. Following the discussion, Nancy Wickmark expressed interest in pursuing the matter further through the NY Forward Grant process.

Also related to public safety, the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department responded to 23 emergency calls in July, including 16 emergency medical services calls and 15 mutual aid calls.

In the last few weeks, two new members have joined the fire department. To meet their needs, the township approved the purchase of two new sets of turnout gear totaling $7,882. The township received $5,847.56 from the Chautauqua County EMS insurance bill in June.

and Mayor Bill Dorman recently met with Dan Delcamp regarding the vacant position of Village Law Enforcement Officer. After he met the minimum educational requirements for the position, the Village Council voted unanimously to hire Delcamp as Village Law Enforcement Officer.

The village beach bathhouse project has made progress in recent weeks. The sewer line has been re-covered and the plumbing work is almost completely finished. The excavator has returned from the construction site. Once the final work on the plumbing is completed, the rest of the interior work on the building can begin.

Regarding the village’s proposed water project, a public notice has been issued as required to review proposed activities in a 100-year flood plain. The request for qualifications for engineers wishing to express interest in the project will also be issued soon so that the village council can decide to whom the project will be awarded.

The council also approved a financial statement as of August 14, showing a balance in the General Fund of $409,908.12, a balance in the Water Fund of $47,233.14 and reserves for water repairs of $50,373.94.
