Oakland firefighters use rescue shears during a call, put the tool away – and it gets stolen

During a rescue operation last week, Oakland firefighters’ rescue shears were stolen, authorities said.

Firefighters brought out the tools during the call. After the call, firefighters discovered that the equipment had been stolen, according to an Oakland police spokesman.

The hydraulic tool is used by rescue workers after serious car accidents. It opens or cuts open wreckage to rescue people inside. Rescue shears can be operated by a single person and generally weigh about 50 pounds.

An Oakland police spokesman said their tools were stolen around 7:15 p.m. Friday in the 1600 block of West Street.
