Shortly before the deadline on Tuesday, the Cincinnati Bengals are expected to have only three “current” running backs on the 53-man roster.
While no one doubts that Zack Moss and Chase Brown will carry the load with occasional touches from Trayveon Williams, no other running back has come close to proving they deserve a spot on the 53-man roster.
Most NFL teams choose to keep four running backs, so it stands to reason that the Bengals’ backfield could be in for some outside reinforcements. Coincidentally, former Bengals backup Samaje Perine is likely to be let go by the Denver Broncos.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Broncos will either release Perine or find a new player. Rapoport adds that Denver is currently negotiating a trade for Perine, and one wonders if the Bengals have inquired about his services.
The #Broncos According to sources, they are expected to part ways with respected 8-year veteran RB Samaje Perine. The team is having multiple trade discussions regarding Perine and it could be more of a trade than a release.

Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic floated the idea that the Bengals could pursue Perine.
This would be the spot most likely to be reinforced from the outside. His name is Samaje Perine. He could be a bench player in Denver’s deep running back group, and the Bengals could use his depth and immediate trust in Burrow. I would imagine the Bengals waiting for the Denver Broncos to release Perine (since $4.5 million will count against the Broncos’ salary cap), but there is the possibility of a trade if the Bengals are willing to take on part of his contract.
It makes a lot of sense for the Bengals to add Perine back to the roster. Let’s see if they can do it.
