The marriage of Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd has been on the verge of collapse for several seasons, but Chicago Fire Season 13 could be the time when the relationship finally falls apart. The NBC procedural drama TV series created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas has featured many relationships over the course of its soon to be 13 seasons and over 250 episodes. Not many couples last Chicago Fireand unfortunately it seems as if It’s only a matter of time before Severide and Stella join the breakup club.

Chicago Fire
Season 13 premieres on Wednesday, September 25 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and will consist of 22 episodes.

As fans will remember, the romantic spark between Severide and Stella immediately flared when Miranda Rae Mayo came into the Chicago Fire in season 4. Their relationship wasn’t the most stable for a while, but Severide and Stella eventually found their rhythm and got married in season 10. Unfortunately, Severide’s strange and annoying behavior began to affect their relationship after the couple’s wedding. While Severide and Stella are still together, Chicago Fire Season 13, it seems that their problems continue.

Severide had the opportunity to attend a training camp run by the Office of Fire Investigation (OFI) In Chicago Fire Season 11, and that was seemingly the beginning of the end. Taylor Kinney’s character left Chicago for the program and extended his vacation without Stella knowing when he was asked to participate in an ATF investigation. Severide never informed his wife of his actions, which caused friction between the two. Thankfully, Severide eventually returned in Chicago Fire Season 12, after Stella brings him home. However, his obsession with OFI continues and Severide and Stella’s marriage will suffer.

Severide promised Stella that he would change and make her a priority, and they were able to temporarily save their marriage in season 12. Although they got along well, Severide’s revelation during the Chicago Fire The season 12 finale might cause the couple to take a few steps back. Severide wants to start a family, much to Stella’s surprise. She didn’t react very positively to Severide’s proposal, but maybe she was just shocked (or she’s not on the same wavelength as her husband). So having a baby could be a theme in season 13, along with Severide’s ongoing OFI obsession.

Severide still has OFI as a priority at Chicago Fire

OFI will be an important part of Severide’s story in season 13

When speaking with TVLineShowrunner Andrea Newman gave a taste of Severide’s story in Chicago Fire Season 13. Unfortunately, their comments spell bad news for Severide’s relationship with Stella. When asked why Severide did not get a promotion at Firehouse 51 while other characters did, Newman said:

“He’s focused on what he’s obsessed with, which is arson and OFI, in addition to the squad he loves. The higher you go up in the ranks, the more politics there are, and Severide has no interest in that. He’s a guy who gets his hands dirty. So arson is still at the top of his list, the possibility of joining OFI is at the top of his list, and all of that comes up. He’s dealing with all of that this season.”

Severide tried to hold back with OFI, Chicago Fire Season 12, but his passion for arson investigations will seemingly overshadow his other priorities and responsibilities (including his marriage) in Season 13. As Newman points out in her interview, Severide is obsessed with arson and OFI. Consequently, OFI will be an important part of Taylor Kinney’s character’s story in the coming episodes. Perhaps Season 13 will finally offer the opportunity for Severide to move from Firehouse 51 to OFI (and for Kinney, Chicago Fire after years of speculation about his exit).

Will Severide leave Firehouse 51 to join OFI in season 13 of Chicago Fire?

Taylor Kinney has been on the verge of leaving for several seasons

Based on Andrea Newman’s comments, it is quite possible that Severide will leave Firehouse 51 and Rescue Squad 3 for OFI in Chicago Fire Season 13. Severide is obsessed with OFI and he will not give up his passion for arson investigations without a fight. Unfortunately Severide’s persistence could be his downfall (at least as far as his time on the NBC crime series goes). If he’s not willing to prioritize Firehouse 51 and his wife over OFI in the coming episodes, it will only be a matter of time before Severide jumps ship, destroying his marriage in the process.

Only time will tell whether Severide and Stella will overcome these final hurdles, or whether
Chicago Fire
Season 13 will be Taylor Kinney’s last.

Fans should be concerned about Severide and Stella’s relationship in Season 13. Severide’s love for OFI (which damaged his marriage in the past), combined with potential disagreements about starting a family, will only end in disaster. Only time will tell if Severide and Stella will survive these latest hurdles or if Chicago Fire Season 13 will be Taylor Kinney’s last.
