Cass County Sheriff’s Office warns of fraud

CASS COUNTY, ND (Valley News Live) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the public of a scam in the FM area that is causing concern.

The office posted on social media that it has been notified of a scam call targeting residents. In it, the scammer leaves voicemail messages from the phone number 701-248-6054 and falsely identifies himself as Sergeant Iverson of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. The caller states that he needs to discuss an urgent legal matter.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to remain alert if they receive a call from a deputy with the office.

If at any time you feel the circumstances are inconclusive, simply end the phone call, call the Red River Regional Dispatch Center at (701) 451-7660 and ask to speak to a representative. The dispatcher will transfer the call to an on-duty representative who will help you prove the legitimacy of the original phone call.

Given the volume of fraud cases reported to law enforcement, their office is aware that their legitimacy can be questioned and they would prefer that someone go through the verification process before becoming a victim.

Sometimes Cass County personnel will call individuals to inform them of a warrant and to schedule a court date. However, under no circumstances will Sheriff’s Office personnel request bail payments over the phone and/or in any form other than cash. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office will accept warrant payments, but bail must be paid in cash and at the courthouse.

If you have questions regarding a valid warrant and/or the validity of a telephone call informing you of a valid warrant, the Sheriff’s Office encourages you to call the Warrant Division at (701) 241-1283.
