According to a new report on the chain’s bankruptcy proceedings, more Red Lobsters are closing than initially expected.
Why are more and more Red Lobsters closing?
News that Red Lobster might file for bankruptcy first emerged in April when reports of the seafood restaurant’s financial difficulties surfaced. Weeks later, the chain’s parent company made the filing official.
“This restructuring is the best path forward for Red Lobster,” CEO Jonathan Tibus said in a press release. “It allows us to address several financial and operational challenges and emerge stronger and refocus on growth.”
Some, but certainly not all, Red Lobsters closed after the bankruptcy filing. There were rumors that the chain could possibly be “saved.” But now it seems like things are going in a different direction.

The report states on CNN: “The company is rejecting leases for an additional 23 locations through Saturday, August 31.” These additional locations are expected to close.
