KP Funplex to be built in Johnson County

JOHNSON COUNTY, Kentucky (WSAZ) – A new entertainment center for the whole family is set to open in Johnson County, Kentucky.

Johnson County Executive Judge Mark McKenzie and the Johnson County Fiscal Court, in conjunction with the Johnson County Board of Education and a local developer, announced the signing of a lease to build a KP Funplex, an entertainment center.

The 5,700-square-foot facility is being built on a site adjacent to the new Johnson Central High School campus near Walmart.

KP Funplex plans to offer a wide range of activities that appeal to all ages, including 24 bowling lanes, a two-story go-kart track, laser tag, arcade games, 4D and VR gaming experiences, axe throwing and party rooms. The facility will also have a restaurant.

“On behalf of the Fiscal Court, I would like to thank the Johnson County Schools and School Board for their partnership in taking advantage of this unique opportunity. By working with a private developer, we are not only bringing student and family-friendly entertainment to our community, but also increasing traffic and economic growth in the area,” said Johnson County Judge and Chief Administrative Officer Mark McKenzie.

“We are very pleased to secure priority access to the 24 bowling lanes for our bowling team,” said Superintendent Thom Cochran. “This eliminates the need to travel to other facilities and gives us the opportunity to host tournaments right here in our community.”

Construction of the KP Funplex is expected to begin in 2025.
