Bulldogs pair face off in Red Zone game of the week

CARTHAGE, Texas (KLTV) – The Carthage Bulldogs host the Kilgore Bulldogs in the Week 1 Red Zone Game.

Last year, Carthage beat Kilgore 30-27 early in the season.

Kilgore finished last season with a record of 12-2 and reached the regional finals. Clint Fuller and the Bulldogs return five starters on offense and eight starters on defense. Kilgore’s defense will be led by Jayden Sanders, who committed to Michigan. Fuller knows Friday night will be a tough test, but he’s excited to see where the team stands right now.

“Carthage is a good benchmark for you as a team,” Fuller said. “You’ll be able to see your strengths and weaknesses very quickly and you’ll be tested in all three phases.”

Carthage lost just one game last year, to the eventual state champions, the Gilmer Buckeyes. Carthage is seeking its 10th state title this season. Jett Surratt and KJ Edwards return this year to lead the offense, while Klayton Ingram and DaQuives Beck will hold down the defense. Scott Surratt believes Friday night’s game will be won in the trenches.

“Offensively, we have to control their defensive line,” Surratt said. “If we let those guys have a party on Friday night, we’re going to be in trouble.”

Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Bulldog Stadium in Carthage.
